Precontemplation Stage

At this stage the person is not ready for change and may not recognize that there is a problem.  

Contemplation Stage

At this stage the person is considering change s/he considers the possibility that there is a problem. The person begins to look at any positives or negatives of using.

Preparation Stage

At this stage the person begins to make plans to change

Action Stage

During this stage the person has made a current change the behavior. 

Maintenance Stage

 During this stage the person is working on maintaining sobriety and preventing relapse
